A Good Budget Package

The Schwinn 430 Variable Stride Elliptical Trainer is another great workout equipment from Schwinn. Although it comes after the 420 model, it does not entirely outperform its predecessor. However, the major improvement in the Schwinn 430 is its weight. Weighing only 152 lbs, the Schwinn 430 is easy to store and move around.  Other features have also been scaled down to size. While it still has the 8 preset workout programs that Schwinn 420 has, it reduces the range of resistance and limits you to only 8 levels. It boasts of an 18” stride length, around 2” longer than what you would expect from other trainers in that price range. A longer stride spells a more efficient workout for you because it involves more of your leg muscles into the action. This heightened involvement of your limbs then results into well-toned muscles and a faster rate of burning calories.

The Schwinn 430 also comes with the standard features of its companions under the Schwinn brand. These include the pulse grip monitor, the Eddy Current Braking (ECB) system and the articulating foot pads. The pulse grip monitor helps you keep track of how fast your heart is going. This is crucial for people who have had previous heart ailments and are limited on the amount of strenuous activity that they exert. The signature ECB system and articulating foot pads, present in all Schwinn elliptical trainers, allow for a smooth glide that mimics how you would naturally get on with your stride. Because of the ECB braking system, the Schwinn 430 is quiet and smooth.

The pivoting foot plates also prevent you from incurring ankle injuries that may result when the pads are too stiff or completely fixed into place. Comparing it to its competitors in the under-$1000 price range, the cushioned pivoting foot pads are also considered a welcome bonus feature. The Schwinn 430 also boasts of front drive dual direction, giving you the choice for forward and backward motion.

Despite its light weight, the Schwinn 430 is not wobbly at all.  However, because of its frame, it can only stand a weight of 275 lbs. That’s a big cut from the 420’s 300-lb capacity, but 275 is still a pretty good weight. Another problem with the 430 is that the LCD is too small, making it harder to read data such as heart rate and calorie count. Most users have also complained of experiencing difficulties while assembling it. However, an instructional booklet that comes with the trainer may help you resolve some of these issues.
To sum it up, the Schwinn 430 is the mini-me of elliptical trainers. Lightweight and compact, it may shed off some of the features that you may have seen from its bulkier counterparts. But, if you’re wondering how to clear up apartment space for your new elliptical trainer, then the Schwinn 430 is perfect for you. Although its features may be a tad limited, it still makes the cut to giving you a solid and comprehensive workout.
